Tagyal s Mystical Journey with Ghost: Whether we agree or not ghost are something that makes us fear and panic. Many of us have heard stories from our elders during or childhood. These stories spark our imagination about the existence of the strange and fearful non-human world. Like in many other countries ghost stories are also very popular in Tibet. Most of these stories are somewhat based on the experiences narrated orally like the story of Tagyal. I heard this story many times form my dear mother. It was very frightening but as a child we were fond of hearing it at the same time. The story reveals the nature of ghosts in the Tibetan context and how this phenomenon is being handled in the Tibetan community. As the story contains valuable information about the Tibetan society I discussed this with my uncle who is very conversant about these stories. He retold the story and together we decided to put this oral story in writing in Tibetan and English. I hope the people around will enjoy this Tibetan ghost story.
